What a veil is

In makeup, a veil is the sheerest layer of color: a wash you can see skin through, laid on again only where you want it deeper. The Veils are six pieces made to wear that way: a skin tint, a cheek gel, a lip tint, a tinted brow gel, a fine setting mist and a body oil with a soft sheen.

One by one

Wear one alone or layer them in order: the tint first, then cheek, lip and brow, the mist last.

  • Skin Veil: a frosted-glass dropper bottle of sheer beige tint, with one drop of tint beside it.

    Skin Veil

A sheer skin tint in ten shades, very fair to very deep. Press it in with your fingertips and your freckles stay. 30 ml.

  • Cheek Veil: a small frosted-glass jar of sheer rose cheek gel, its lid resting beside it.

    Cheek Veil

A cheek gel in rose, apricot and berry. Pat it on with a fingertip; the warmth of your skin does the blending. 8 g.

  • Lip Veil: a slim frosted tube of sheer berry lip tint with its doe-foot applicator in front of it.

    Lip Veil

A lip tint with a doe-foot, in rose, berry and brick. One coat looks like your lips, only warmer. 6 ml.

  • Brow Veil: a slim frosted tube of taupe brow gel with its spoolie wand beside it.

    Brow Veil

A tinted brow gel with a spoolie, in taupe, soft brown and deep brown. It colors the hairs and leaves skin bare. 5 ml.

  • Setting Veil: a frosted-glass spray bottle, a fine cloud of mist just leaving the nozzle.

    Setting Veil

A fine, clear mist to finish. Hold it at arm’s length and mist once over your face to set every coat. 100 ml.

  • Body Veil: a tall frosted-glass pump bottle of pale golden body oil, a small pool of oil beside it.

    Body Veil

A light body oil with a soft golden sheen. Smooth a few drops over shoulders, collarbones and shins. 100 ml.

Built in coats

Each veil goes on thin, so color deepens only where you lay it again. Below: one, two and three coats over six skin tones.

Shown: Cheek Veil

  1. One coat

A wash of color with your skin showing through, freckles and all. On most days, one is enough.

  2. Two coats

A second coat, patted on where you want it, reads as color: the apples of the cheeks, the center of the lips.

  3. Three coats

As deep as the veil goes, for evenings and photographs. Finish with one mist of Setting Veil.

Six bare inner arms laid one above another on a white sheet, palms up, from very fair skin at the top to very deep skin at the bottom.

Before your first coat

How do I choose my shade of Skin Veil?

Look at the side of your jaw in daylight and find the depth closest to it, then the undertone: cool if your skin leans pink, warm if it leans golden, neutral if it does neither. Each shade is named for both. Between two shades, take the lighter one: a sheer tint can be built up, never taken back.

How sheer is sheer?

Sheer enough that your freckles, your pores and the color of your own skin show through one coat. Skin Veil evens things out a little and hides nothing; it will not cover a dark spot or a scar the way foundation does. If you can still see your freckles, it is working.

Can I wear the Veils over sunscreen?

Yes, and keep wearing it: none of the Veils contains sunscreen. Let it settle for a few minutes, then press Skin Veil on with your fingertips rather than rubbing, so the sunscreen stays where you put it.

I have sensitive skin. Can I wear them?

Read the full ingredient list on each veil’s page before you order, and try a little on your inner arm for a day before it goes on your face. If your skin reacts to many products, your dermatologist can tell you which ingredients to avoid.

Who makes the Veils?

A cosmetics maker produces them for us. We choose each formula and every shade from its range, and the maker labels, packs and ships each order.

How long does an order take?

Orders leave the maker within a few business days, with a tracking link by email. You see the shipping cost and an estimated delivery date for your address at checkout, before you pay.

Can I return a veil?

Unopened veils can come back within 30 days for a full refund. If a shade turns out wrong once you have tried it, write to us within 30 days and we will send you another shade, once per order.
